Scripture: Jeremiah 31:15-22
Lesson: Rachel Is Weeping
The question in so many of our hearts this week has been, from where do we find hope? We are, after all, a people of hope who don’t believe that death ever has the last word. Problem is that having faith in the victory of life over death can sometimes feel very theoretical and theological when actual people are dying by the hundreds and suffering by the thousands (millions?)
I hand picked this week’s scripture because it’s been running through my head all week. Interestingly, the only part that I have memorized is the first and so the mental recitations have been, for me, a sense of God with me (with us) seeing our grief and weeping; our hopelessness and fear. As the poetic prophecy carries on, however, we hear of a promise that is hope and compassion and even some grace.
** Just a reminder that Sunday is PUMPKIN FEST!! After church we will join what will have already started – an afternoon of pumpkin painting, face painting, cider donuts, live music, and even a petting zoo! See you Sunday!
