Sunday WorshipLessons: Acts 2:1-21
Message: Whole Hearted Sight
This Sunday is Pentecost! Pentecost is a Christian Holiday when we recognize the blessing that is the Holy Spirit and all that this Spirit did and does to create and maintain the church. The story of Pentecost is strange and even other-worldly, talking about “tongues as in fire” and “each one hearing them speaking in the native language of each.” It was a moment of miraculous Spirit that proved to be transformative, both individually and for the community as a whole.
We at UPA know this feeling (though maybe not as a “tongue of fire” resting on our head) and could easily point to a moment in our church life when we felt as if something in the room had shifted or changed permanently. Just last week many of you expressed such an experience just listening to Taj Smith’s testimony and interpretation of the Word from a place of a transgender man. The thing is that we also know that to experience this transformative spirit we must have our eyes (and ears and hearts) open and willing to receive.
This Sunday we will conclude our series on “Learning to See” by considering what can be gained when we enter into the world with humility and awareness, our eyes wide open!
… and one final note: DON’T FORGET TO WEAR RED! Red is the color of Pentecost so let’s celebrate by painting the sanctuary RED with our attire!
See you Sunday!

Live Stream Information
We will continue streaming our worship on both Zoom and Facebook Live. Please share these links with your friends. Bear in mind that we cannot share the Zoom links publicly (to keep from being Zoom bombed), so please share it person to person rather than posting it on Facebook/Twitter, or other public social media. It’s fine to share the Facebook link broadly and publicly. For Zoom login information please reach out to Pastor Cheryl at email@example.com.
Note: that we continue to work on streaming as we make improvements to the sanctuary sound system.
