Good morning and blessings!
I am so pleased to welcome the Rev. Nizzi Digan, UMC Commonwealth East District Superintendent to our pulpit and worship this Sunday! Rev. Digan is a fourth-generation Methodist from Manila, Philippines, where her grandfather and father were United Methodist pastors and her grandmother and sister Beulah were deaconesses. When she was ordained by Bishop Peter Weaver in 2006, Rev. Digan became the first Filipina elder in the New England Conference. Additionally she currently serves on the Board of Ordained Ministry and as a Candidacy Mentor and as the Clergy Spiritual Director for the Crossroads Emmaus of New England. Rev. Digan is no stranger to the Commonwealth East District as she has served previous appointments in Lynn, Everett, and East Saugus as well as 10 years as the Port chaplain with Boston Seafarers Friend for the Port of Boston.
As many of you know, we are a federated church that includes the equal support and recognition of both the United Methodist Church and the United Church of Christ. Both of these denominations support the UPA with resources for both ministry and the running of the “business” that is a church. While it is true that we are financially autonomous from both of these denominations (we actually pay them for the abundance of support and resources) we owe much of our success in ministry and outreach to our denominational bodies who are as invested as we are in our growth and empowerment!
