Scripture: Luke 14:25-33
Message: The Cost of Discipleship
Welcome back, church! We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone back this Sunday for our 2025-26 program year. We will be welcoming our new Faith Formation Specialist, Elle Wilson, who will be leading our Sunday School and supporting the faith formation of our younger members. We’ll also be welcoming Soo Laski, this year’s student minister! Soo is entering her second year at Boston University and is looking forward to learning about worship planning and leadership.
This fall, in worship, we’ll be taking chapters out of Cole Arthur Riley’s book, This Here Flesh, to help us become more attuned to the movement of the Divine in and through us. Arthur Riley writes from the perspective of a disabled, black woman whose relationship with the Divine comes through the body and how her body can be in relationship with the lives and bodies around her. It is clear to me that, as we move through the sufferings and challenges of our national culture right now, it will be helpful for us to be clear on our relationship with the Divine Spirit and what we are being called into through this relationship. This Sunday we will wonder about what it will mean for us to choose the Love of God over the trappings of this world by first recognizing God’s love within and for ourselves. If you happen to have the book, This Hear Flesh, I’ll be covering the preface, Chapter 1(Dignity) and possibly chapter 5(Body).
See you Sunday!
Peace,
Cheryl
