March 1 Worship

Scriptures: Psalm 121 and Romans Chapter 15: 1-13
Message: Hope in Action

One of the ways we can make space for the Divine in our lives is by our “Spiritual Practice.”

So then let’s break that down: Why ought we be spending this time of Lent making space for the Divine in our hearts and lives? This world and just living in it are really hard right now. For some that’s personal but for others it has everything to do with the divisive politics and inhuman nature of our national leaders’ communications and policies. Making space for God in our days and our hearts gives us space to breathe, relax the tension of our frustration and remember that we are not alone in this struggle. It opens us into vulnerability that is the humility that reminds us that we cannot necessarily control everything in this world but we can receive what is ours to receive and offer out what is ours to offer.

Spiritual practices are ways we can be deliberate about this “opening.” These can be prayer, meditation, or worship but it can also be dance, art, sewing, listening to music or even making music. This season of Lent, our student minister, Soo, will be offering 3 evenings of creative practices introducing us to new ways to make space in our lives and hearts for the Divine. I hope you will join us for session 2 and 3 coming up later in March!

Additionally, this Sunday will be intergenerational led by our Faith Formation Specialist, Elle Wilson and our Minister of Faith Formation, Rev. Matt Carriker!

See you then!
Peace,
Cheryl
