What is your favorite social media account? Right now, hands down mine is this guy who asks “Dad Jokes” to his new adopted “dog”, Eddie. You see, Eddie is actually NOT a dog but a hyena and when he hears the joke he laughs like a hyena does: hilarious and uncontainable laughter. And then, every single time, I laugh too, though, not at the “Dad joke.” I typically don’t love puns or ridiculously simple jokes mostly because I always feel obligated to laugh and laughing is not necessarily my intuitive reaction to jokes. HOWEVER, EDDIE AND HIS CONTAGIOUS LAUGH? I just can’t help myself.
“I recently sprayed Axe body spray into my mouth. It gave me a serious Axe-scent!”
“Did you know I once bought a dog from a blacksmith? As soon as we got it home it made a bolt for the door.”
And then the cackles! I will never NOT laugh at these posts
Despite the challenges of this lifetime, we just have to laugh. We HAVE to be able to see not just the serious in our experiences, but also the absurd and ridiculous. And then we just have to laugh. Laughing is joy and human and authentic. And in all of that it is sacred.
Join us THIS SUNDAY for our annual HOLY HUMOR SUNDAY when we spend our worship and praise time giggling, rolling our eyes, and generally relaxing into the absurdity that is this life. I love this Sunday. Can’t wait to see you all then!
