Message: Hope Against Fear

Hello and blessings on this Election Day +1. I pray you are finding peace and hope regardless of who or how you voted. I have just a couple of VERY IMPORTANT calendar notes…

• ADULT STUDY this week will be on THURSDAY, NOV. 10TH as Parish Council meets this evening. 
• This Sunday is STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY! Which means we will continue our celebration of the blessing of being Stewards of God’s Word through this amazing church. Also it means we’ll have CAKE!!
• Next Sunday, November 20th we will welcome Demie Stathoplos from First Unitarian Universalist Society of West Newton into our pulpit to share a message on our faith-founded call to be stewards of this Earth.

As luck would have it, the lectionary scripture for this Sunday, our second Sunday of Stewardship November, is one of the “Apocalyptic Texts” which harkens images of “insurrections”, “war”, “famines and plagues.” It practically begs us to see clearly the individuals and groups claiming to know the will of Jesus and using that “will” as a weapon against others. LUCK, because here we are, one week after an especially contentious mid-term election which included fear-based rhetoric from all of these places. Reading these words from within the current political and social climate might cause us to feel fearful and hopeless, but actually a closer look at what is being said includes a very urgent and confident message of hope.

This Sunday we’ll take a look at this hope as it is being birthed and nourished from within the UPA community, programing, and care-giving.  And we will call it Stewardship of the church, The Way, and of peace.
