May 10 Worship

This Week at UPA

May 10 Worship

Scriptures: John 14:15-21 and 1 Peter 3:13-22
Message: Having PRIDE in Our Faith

This Sunday we will hear about the introduction of the “Holy Spirit” sometimes referred to in scripture as “the Advocate.” This is Jesus gently affirming the disciples that, though he will soon be gone, they will still have a holy presence with them in the form of a Spirit. AND SO they must not lose heart for the mission! They must find courage to stand up when others are too afraid and speak when others have been silenced. In Paul’s first letter to Peter he is telling this new church starter the same things – to be brave and bold because no way are folks going to hear what you have to say and immediately agree. Our message of non-violent, love based action is counter cultural and holds a mirror up to those who would choose power at all costs.

Join me this Sunday as a *get to preach again!!* though this time on our call to the streets, the bedsides of the ill, the tables of the homeless, in partnership with the oppressed. Let’s get inspired for the work of the gospel!

See you Sunday!
Peace,
Cheryl
