Message: It’s Not About Him
This Sunday I’ll be following the lead of several conversations I’ve had with you all over the past month about Jesus, who he is/was, and what we are to believe about him. It occurs to me that I have not clearly shared what I believe about Jesus the Christ (something we academics refer to as “Christology.”) So then let’s talk about it. Do you come to church but are not sure you’d call yourself a “Christian?” Do you appreciate all that the human Jesus did in his life but can quite get your brain around the incarnation? Have you been bringing your family to church on Easter Sunday for decades but don’t believe in the resurrection? Then THIS SERMON IS FOR YOU! And, true to form, I promise not to get too heady!
Some other things going on… We are in UPA’s Stewardship Season when we reflect on how we can be stewards of God’s vision for the church community that is the UPA. It’s when we make our pledges for how much we will give toward the 2026 budget so our money people can then combine these pledges with other prospective income and come up with a budget. And it’s when we focus on the question “why?” – Why is it that we continue to finance this community? Why is this a financial priority for us/our family?
