Worship March 30th

Message: Lost and Found
Scripture:  Luke 15:1-7

This Sunday we’ll be considering the first of several “lost and found” parables that Jesus offers to the religious leaders around him. We’ll be reading the parable of the lost sheep (how the shepherd goes after the 1 lost sheep leaving the other 99 in the wilderness) which is followed by the parable of the lost coin (similar to the lost sheep though with the added urgency of currency), which is then followed by the Prodigal Son (when the estranged son comes home and the father welcomes him with great joy much to the chagrin of the the son that stayed home, worked the farm and make responsible choices.) Culture would have us hearing these stories from a place of us vs. them: God CHOOSES the lost sheep over the herd. I’ve always had trouble reconciling this translation, however, because the God I know would never choose one over any other. So then, how can we hear this parable from a place in-between?

See you Sunday when we will wonder about this and more!
Peace,
Cheryl
