This Sunday we will gather around the table with Christians from all over the world in celebration of World Communion Sunday! It will be a day to remember that we are not alone in our hope for unity and peace through justice for the sake of this world. Matt is preaching on Mark 10 which, interestingly enough is about Jesus’ answer to the pharisee’s questions about lawful divorce (spoiler alert: Like Jesus, Matt will not answer the pharisee’s question.)
ALSO THOUGH, come to church in your comfy clothes and be prepared to unload pumpkins after coffee hour! This is a great opportunity for those who have not been able to join the pumpkin patch set-up in previous years to be a part of all the fun! If moving pumpkins is too much for you, grab coffee, a donut and a chair and just hang out with us. I promise you won’t regret it.
FINALLY, we will begin our book study on White Christian Nationalism this month with Jim Wallace’s book, The False White Gospel: rejecting Christian Nationalism, restoring true faith, and refounding democracy. Discussions will be held at 2nd Church in West Newton on October 10, 2024 (chapters 1-2), October 17, 2024 (chapters 3-4), and October 24, 2024 (rest of book) from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Of course you are welcome to join the discussion having not read the book as I know it will be insightful.
