Scripture: 2 Samuel 1:1, 17-27
Message: God in Our Love
Blessings and grace to you all.
It’s hard to believe that before this modern era people did not find themselves loving same-sex relationships. Today it is said that 1 in 10 people self-define within the LGBTQ spectrum. So why don’t we read more about tender and committed same sex relationships in historical spaces? The truth is, we do. There are several biblical stories that feature an intimate and loving relationship that is atypical to a heterosexual one.
This Sunday’s scripture tells of one of those relationships.
2 Samuel tells of David’s very intimate and committed relationship with Saul’s oldest son, Jonathan. The scripture does not shy away from very personal and exaggerated adjectives including noting that their souls were forever bound; their love “wonderful, passing the love of women.”
The point is that God can be found in our love for the Divine, for ourselves, and for one another – in all of its beautiful and tender forms. On this final Sunday of Pride month we will celebrate this gift!
See you Sunday!
Peace,
Cheryl
