Scripture: Amos 5:6-7, 10-15, Hebrews 4:12-16
Message: To Be Seen; To Be Known
This weekend this nation will celebrate Indigenous People’s Day. To honor this holiday, our worship will focus on the history, culture, and trials of our native people. We will begin with a land acknowledgement noting that the land our church stands on was once the land of the Pequot tribe. Our prayers and liturgies all originate from Indigenous authors and artists. Much of our music will come out of these native cultures.
And my sermon will recognize these cultures and communities as well – their lived tradition and the heartache of a continued repression of their livelihood. I hope you will join us on this special day of recognition and remembrance.
FINALLY, don’t forget about our book study on White Christian Nationalism this month with Jim Wallace’s book, The False White Gospel: rejecting Christian Nationalism, restoring true faith, and refounding democracy. Discussions will be held at 2nd Church in West Newton on October 10, 2024 (chapters 1-2), October 17, 2024 (chapters 3-4, and October 24, 2024 (rest of book). Of course you are welcome to join the discussion having not read the book as I know it will be insightful.
See you Sunday!
Peace,
Cheryl
